Aberdeen sits at the convergence of the Wishkah and Chehalis Rivers on the eastern edge of Gray's Harbor, which joins the Pacific Ocean. It is about 50 miles west of the capital of Washington, Olympia, and just south of the Olympic Naional Park and Rain Forest. It does rain in Aberdeen, which makes the landscape lush and green.
The city was originally an important hub for logging and fishing. At the end of the twentieth century it gained worldwide fame as the home of musician Kurt Cobain and the birthplace of Grunge. Nowadays, Aberdeen's focus is tourism, and it is a great place to stock up on supplies as you head out to explore the remote and wild Olympic Peninsula.
