Athol is  a small town in Kootenai County, in the northern Idaho panhandle. It is nestled in the Coeur d'Alene Mountains, south of Lake Pend Oreille. It makes a great spot for a peaceful weekend getaway from the bustle of Coeur d'Alene, just 30 miles to the south, or Spokane, WA; use northwest bed and breakfasts as a base while exploring the region.

Nearby Farragut State Park is situated on Lake Pend Oreille, which is Idaho's largest lake. The lake is delightful for boating and swimming, and maintains almost 10 miles of groomed trails for hiking or biking. History buffs won't want to miss the fasinating Navy Training Center Museum; housed in the former navy brig, it relates the history of the world's second largest naval training center that existed here during the second world war. 

The Pacific Northwest's largest theme park, Siverwood, is just south of Athol. Boasting four rollercoasters and over 65 rides and attractions, it is a great place to take a family vacation in Idaho.
