Located just 80 miles west of Portland, OR, the town of Bay City, OR sits on the east shore of Tillamook Bay. Drive from Portland through the lovely Coastal Range Mountains and find yourself on a quiet bay that spills out into the Pacific Ocean. The bay and adjacent Tillamook State Forest offer many opportunities for outdoor recreation, from boat fishing to hiking to fly-fishing.

Bay City is close to Tillamook, Oregon, home of tasty Tillamook Cheese. The Tillamook Cheese Visitors Center is one of the most often visited attractions on the Oregon Coast, and with good reason. Visitors may tour the factory and then head into the shop for cheese, icecream and other treats. Once re-energized with dairy products, folks will enjoy an impressive selection of museums. The Garibaldi Museum preserves the maritime heritage of the Pacific Northwest: special attention is paid to Captains Robert Gray, one of the first explorers of the region, and his vessels Lady Washington and Columbia Rediviva. The Tillamook Air Museum houses an extensive collection of WWII planes in an impressive World War II Blimp Hangar. Whereas the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum reminds visitors of the many interesting people who settled or passed through this region during the past few hundred years.

Bay City is the perfect place to retreat for the weekend and decompress. Stay in an Oregon b&b while there, and ask your innkeepers what they like to do. You may just stumble upon a pearl, like the Pacific Oytster cafe; the wholesale oyster operation overlooking the water is home to a small cafe that serves up some of the best - and certainly freshest - oysters ever.
