Bonners Ferry Idaho is idyllically situated along the Kootenai River in North Idaho, about 90 miles northeast of Spokane, 35 miles north of Sandpoint, and 25 miles south of the Canadian border. It is a small town that grew out of a fur trading post; traders passed through as early as 1808, and the town itself was founded in 1864. The name of the town is a reference to E.L. Bonner's ferry, made to shuttle people across Kootenai River to the Canadian Gold fields. Consider staying at an Idaho bed and breakfast while exploring the region's history and many outdoor recreation activities.
