Several state parks are in the area: Azalea Park within the city limits offers playgrounds, playing fields and a covered stage in a natural amphitheater; Loeb State Park just north of Brookings on the North Bank of the Chetco River provides drift-boat launching and trails through old-growth Myrtle wood forest. The Oregon Coast Trail that will one day traverse the entire west coast from California to Washington passes through here, with miles of trails on the beach, in the woods, and through town. In addition, the Port of Brookings Harbor is a fascinating place to spend a few hours, watching the commercial fishermen and pleasure boaters or wandering through shops.
