Coos Bay is the largest coastal town in Oregon, with a population of over 16,000. Located in southern part of Oregon, it is an important working port, transporting primarily wood products. Coos Bay wraps around the town, surrounding it with water on three sides. Indeed, salt water and fresh water abounds in this area, as there are several lakes in the town itself.

Coos Bay is easily one of the most photographed areas of Oregon. Its sunsets are spectacular, rainbows abound, and everything from rocky cliffs to sea lions to lighthouses and fishing boats cry out to be photographed. In addition, there are many opportunities for recreational activities. You can spend hours enjoying walks along the beach, exploring tide pools, or surfing. Hiking can lead you to giant trees if you head out of town to Loeb State Park. There is a good chance you will catch a glimpse of a whale, or a sea lion, or an elk in nearby Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area. Plan to spend a few nights in a Coos Bay bed and breakfast, as there is much to do here.
